According to the United States Census Bureau’s 2015-2019 American Community Survey, as cited in this infographic, seven percent of all Texas adults are veterans of the U.S. military, making Texas the state with the second-highest population of veterans in the nation. Throughout the country, veterans report that access to free legal services is a top ten unmet need. Today, as we honor veterans not only in Texas but in every state, from every branch of the military, and from every service era, we at the Harris County Robert W. Hainsworth Law Library are providing links to legal information and resources aimed at addressing the need for veterans’ access to justice.

Veterans Law Resource Month at the Harris County Law Library is coming to an end. All month long, we've featured legal research materials throughout the Law Library, including the following:
- Federal forms for veterans
- Code of Federal Regulations (Title 38: Veterans Affairs)
- 2017 Veterans Benefits Handbook from the Department of Veterans Affairs
We've also spotlighted a few of our online resources including the Veterans Legal Aid Portal from TexasLawHelp.org and military law titles available through HeinOnline.
All of these research tools will continue to be available in our collection and online. In addition, veterans can find a variety of services from organizations such as Lone Star Legal Aid, the Texas Veterans Commission, the Texas Legal Services Center, the State Bar of Texas, the Houston Bar Association, and the Texas Veterans Legal Assistance Project.
