Hoy, 28 de marzo, es un día feriado para los estudiantes y personal del Distrito Escolar Independiente de Houston (HISD) que conmemora el legado de activistas César Chávez y Dolores Huerta. Chávez y Huerta lucharon por los derechos civiles y laborales de trabajadores agícolas y en 1962 cofundaron un sindicato conozido como “United Farm Workers of America (UFW).”
Este día feriado se celebrará cada año ya que los miembros los fideicomisarios del Distrito Escolar Independiente de Houston aprobaron su establecimiento en el calendario académico. HISD organizó una celebración virtual que se llevó acabo el sabado, 26 de marzo, de 9 a 11 am. El tema del evento fue “Superando nuestros obstácluos” e incluyo un discurso inaugural dado por Dolores Huerta.

Today, March 28, 2022, is a holiday for students and staff of the Houston Independent School District (HISD) that commemorates the legacy of civil and labor rights activists César Chávez and Dolores Huerta. Chávez and Huerta advocated for the rights of farmworkers and in 1962 co-founded the labor union “United Farm Workers of America (UFW).”
Chávez-Huerta Day will be celebrated every year after HISD trustees approved the establishment and addition of the holiday in 2018. HISD organized a virtual celebration that was held Saturday, March 26, from 9 to 11 am. The theme of the event was “Overcoming our Obstacles” and included a keynote address from Dolores Huerta.
