(THeToday, January 28, is International LEGO Day, an annual celebration of the world’s most popular plastic building block. From toddlers to teens, kids around the globe can’t get enough of Lego! Many adults (or AFOLs) also enjoy constructing and collecting this iconic toy.
The name LEGO is an abbreviation of the two Danish words “leg godt,” meaning “play well,” but the Latin word lego has historically been used in wills to mean “I bequeath.” So, in honor of International Lego Day and its very tenuous connection to the law, we present you with the following will drafting resources. Build your legacy with the tools below!
In 2015, the Texas Legislature enacted Section 22.020 of the Texas Estates Code, which required the Texas Supreme Court to create simple will forms for public use. The Court granted preliminary approval in September of 2022 to draft and disseminate the proposed forms for public comment. After extensive review and analysis, the Court approved final versions of the forms on May 5, 2023.
On the Forms page of the Texas Judiciary website, under the subheading, Probate & Guardianship, you will find a number of user-friendly will form templates for individuals who are single, married, widowed, or divorced and who either do or do not have children. The 8 different form templates are designed to meet the needs of most people who wish to create a basic will in Texas.
