The General Election will take place on November 5, 2024. Register to vote by next Monday, October 7 to participate in the election.
This year’s general election will include the candidates for President and Vice President of the United States, and other state and local officials, such as United States Senators and Representatives, State Supreme Court Justices, and district court judges.
What is the general election?
There are three types of elections: general, primary, and special elections. The general election held every four years includes candidates for federal, state, and local officials. The General Election is held the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. This year, the General (Presidential) Election will take place on November 5, 2024.
Election Day is November 5, but early voting in Texas begins on October 21. Any registered Texas voter may vote early in person during the early voting period.

The Texas Secretary of State is the chief elections officer of Texas; the SOS website provides a variety of resources for voters, including calendars, election results and data, and information about voting technology. Visit the Current Elections Information page for calendars, candidate information, and other ballot information. Texans can check their voter registration status, local polling locations, and review their sample ballot on VoteTexas.gov.
Register to vote online or complete a voter registration application and return it by mail. You must be registered to vote at least 30 days before election day to be able to participate in the general election.
Can I print out a sample ballot?
Yes! View a sample ballot on the Texas Secretary of State website or visit the website of your county’s elections department. Voters registered in Harris County may view a sample ballot on HarrisVotes.com. There will also be sample ballots available at the polling location.
