The Harris County Robert W. Hainsworth Law Library now offers assistive technology and equipment for use by patrons with disabilities. The following are available for use in-person at the Law Library:
The Assistive Technology Laptop features the following program designed for enhanced accessibility:
Dragon Dictation is a speech recognition software that can be used to transcribe speech to on-screen text. This may be useful for patrons with vision or mobility accommodation needs. Use Dragon to dictate speech to text and to maneuver the cursor hands-free.
A headset with a microphone designed for speech-to-text software is available to patrons using assistive computer programs on the Assistive Technology Laptop or on Law Library public computers.
The Law Library’s public computer space is equipped with a workstation accessible for wheelchair users. The Law Library’s physical space is ADA compliant and accessible for wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers.
Windows 10 features built-in accessibility tools that are available on all Law Library public computers and on the AssistiveTechnology Laptop:
Narrator reads out text in documents, web browsers, and applications. The cursor indicator narrates where the cursor is on the screen.
Audio Description is available for videos that already feature descriptive text.
Magnifier enlarges the desktop window for readability, as well as features controls for Narrator.
Large type, high-contrast keyboards and a trackball easy-use mouse are available at the reference desk for use in the Law Library. Magnifying glasses can also be requested at the reference desk.
Patrons wishing to use adaptive technology or equipment at the Law Library are required to submit an ADA accommodation request form at least three days in advance. Please contact us for more information about completing an ADA accommodation request form or about the assistive resources available at the Harris County Hainsworth Law Library.
