Free Texas CLE with Ethics Credit: Adoption & Family Formation in the Pride Community
Join us on Tuesday, November 1, from 3-4 p.m. for a webinar called, “Adoption & Family Formation in the Pride Community.” Presenter deborah lawson, attorney-at-law, will guide attendees through the labyrinth of Adoption 101—from petition to final order in simple, easy to follow steps—while facing the ethical considerations of the modern family, including joint representation, platonic and poly parenting, age, biology, geography, a child’s choice, and so much more. She will also provide a high-level overview of common Assisted Reproductive Technologies.

Free Family Information Session: We Are Family: Navigating Adoption within the Pride Community
Join us via Zoom on Saturday, November 5, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for an interactive informational session on the adoption process. Attorney deborah lawson will offer explanations and insights into the adoption process and the legal aspects of using Assisted Reproductive Technologies. Attendees may ask general questions for educational purposes, but deborah will not be able to provide legal advice during the presentation.

Heart Gallery Houston Exhibit at the Law Library
The “Heart Gallery Houston” is a photo exhibit of children in foster care who are available for adoption. The exhibit will be available for viewing in the Law Library Oct. 31 - Nov. 30, 2022.
According to its website, “Heart Gallery Houston is a powerful, traveling photographic exhibit created to ignite awareness and help find forever families for children in foster care.” Heart Gallery Houston is just one of four programs provided by BEAR…A Resource for CPS Kids, a non-profit organization that works to provide hope and help to abused, neglected and at-risk children.
BEAR Necessities Drive for Children in Foster Care
The Law Library is pleased to host a #BEARCares Drive to collect supplies for children who are under the supervision of Child Protective Services (CPS). The Law Library will be collecting items inside the library from Oct. 31 - Nov. 23, 2022.
Named “BEAR Necessities,” this program offers clothing, shoes, diapers, car seats, air mattresses and more to meet the immediate needs of children. Any donated goods should remain unopened and/or have never been used (or worn). Critically needed items for all genders include:
Hygiene Packs (which include 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner, bars of soap, individual toothbrushes and toothpaste, and deodorant – should you want to assemble your own!)
Hair care products (lice shampoo, hair ties, and hair brush/comb)
Baby Hygiene Packs (which include baby wash, baby lotion, baby powder, and diaper rash ointment – should you want to assemble your own!)
Baby wipes
Formula (all types)
Diapers (NB – size 6)
Baby items (pacifier, bib, receiving blanket, and ‘sippy’ cup)
Feminine hygiene products (pads and tampons)
Clothing of all sizes (NB – juniors)
Pajamas of all sizes (NB – juniors)
Socks of all sizes (NB – juniors)
Shoes of all sizes
Underwear of all sizes (child – adult)
Stuffed animals
Toys
Books
Blankets
Diaper/duffle bags/backpack/overnight bags *Children sometimes have to use trash-bags to hold their items. Together, we can make sure they have more than just a plastic bag.
Household cleaning supplies (Lysol wipes, all-in-one cleaning solution, mops, broom & dustpan set, Fabuloso, laundry detergent, dish-soap, and paper towels)
