Reference Policies

The Law Library offers reference services to the community, including assistance in accessing legal forms and other legal information needs. Currently, the Virtual Reference Desk affords patrons two ways to connect with a law librarian.

Patrons can contact the Virtual Reference Desk at any time; however, Law Library staff will only respond to inquiries Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Spanish-speaking staff are available to help.

The law librarians are here to help patrons with their legal research needs. However, the law limits the services that they can provide.

The librarians can:

  • Connect patrons to useful forms.

  • Guide patrons to useful research materials.

  • Locate a specific case or statute.

  • Refer patrons to legal aid.

Librarians cannot:

  • Perform research on a patron’s behalf.

  • Offer advice on any legal procedure, court rule, or statute.

  • Fill out or review forms.

  • Refer patrons to specific attorneys.
