Expunction 101: Helping Pro Se Litigants

MCLE credit: 1.5 hours, including 0.25 hours of ethics

Course Description: This training will be an overview of the expunction process, including determining eligibility, researching the case, drafting the petition and order, and filing, with emphasis on helping pro se litigants navigate the process. Ethics topics will include plea bargaining to preserve eligibility for expunction and strategies to help even when someone is not eligible. This training is being put on as part of a collaborative expunction project led by Legal Aid of Northwest Texas and funded by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation. 

Presenter: Paul Quinzi is a longtime criminal defense attorney practicing in Travis County. He serves as the Expunction and Non-Disclosure Attorney for the Travis County Law Library, provides of-counsel support for the University of Texas Law School's Expunction Project, and assists with the Travis County District Attorney's Office's Expunction Expo.
